Marya's Favorite Fifteen Films of 2022

It's Been Another Great Year for Cinema

I believe this is my 14th year do a Favorite Fifteen Films post (the previous iterations can be found at my old blog). It’s also the year I’ve seen the most “new releases”. By this I mean films released theatrically or streaming (or on TV) during this calendar year. This means that several of the films on this list, I actually saw at festivals last year (and several films I’ve seen at festivals this year will be counted on my 2023 list). You can find all 285 “new releases” and how they rank on Letterboxd. You can also see the 69(!) films that are getting held over for 2023 here. You’re right if you think that this is a lot of movies. It is, and also very confusing when it comes to festival releases being held over. But I like to think of this end of the year list as a recommendation for readers, so I want to keep it as accessible as possible.
