This was a beautifully written. I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad back in 2023 and it made me remember the memories that we got to share over film and how much of an influence he was in my love of film today. I think about how even though they’re gone, I’m incredibly thankful we got to make those memories together. Thank you for writing this.

Marya, I've saved this because I want to give the reading of it proper time and space (and there's a conference I'm involved in this weekend.) But thank you for writing it and sharing and all these... photographs. My condolences to you and your family. Everyone missing him.

A father leaves an indelible mark on his daughter. The timing of your beautiful piece is perfect as it coincides with my listening to Tony Morrison’s audiobook, Song of Solomon, specifically the introduction. Ms. Morrison refers to her father‘s impact on her as an artist, and something she said really resonated with me. She states that with her father‘s passing, she also grieved that version of her that lived in her father’s mind. Reading your peace, I get a similar sense that your father had a beautiful picture of you, his daughter, separate and apart from how you view yourself. It’s wonderful that you’re getting to hear from others about that girl that lived in your father‘s mind and heart. On a personal note, I lost my father in 2006, and I still think about him and miss him daily ❤️

Thank you for sharing that with me. It’s both an incredibly moving thought, but also a deeply sad one. Either way, I appreciate you sharing her words with me. It was the perfect time to read them.

This is a beautiful post Marya. Having lost my father in January, this really hit home. It's heartwarming that you and your father had such a loving bond and that you two got to spend so much time together at the end. I hope you're doing well as you navigate your way through this loss.
