Hello dear free subscribers!
If you read my end of the month post for April you might know that I have had to return to my hometown to take care of my Dad during a decline in his health. I can’t share what is going on yet, but I am going to be here for the foreseeable future and am his only caretaker (and am also dealing with some ~admin~ stuff), which means I have had to give up some of my regular writing gigs (I will still be doing my Female Filmakers in Focus column at RogerEbert.com though!!), as well as cancel the remaining appearances on my book tour.
I am, however, going to keep working on my Weekly Directed By Women Viewing Guide because it is my passion and I want to make sure everyone knows about all the great films by women that are being released or that are being programmed by curators at art house theaters and museums around the country (and sometimes globally).
Other than for Women’s Month in March, the Guide is for paid subscribers because it takes a lot of time to research and write, and now it is my main income source. For the next three weeks I have set up a 20% off code so that new paid subscribers will only be paying $56 for yearly plans or $5.60 for monthly plans.
Each week I will continue to recommend at least seven films and let you know where to watch them, and I will continue to link out to art house theaters across the country as we fight to keep these hallowed institutions alive, despite the current administration trying to shut them all down1.
I hope if you can afford to subscribe you can also see the value of this work and will considering upgrading to a paid subscription. Thank you so much.
If you have a specific theatre or venue that you would like me to try to highlight more often in the guide, please let me know and I will be sure to add them to the Guide when they have Directed By Women programming.
