I love this! I don't have as many clear VHS trailer memories, except for what I believe was the "Little Women" VHS we had. I remember "The Baby-Sitter's Club" (set to "Dreams" by the Cranberries) and "Secret of Roan Inish" trailers. I just remembered the BSC trailer several years ago and it all came rushing back to me - I was so psyched to find it on YouTube! I only just saw BSC and Roan Inish for real in the past few years, too - the imaginary films in my head were just too good.

A cousin of this is the movies that were recorded from TV. There’s a lot of tv spots that I remember from specific tapes my dad had. And if there was 2-3 movies on one tape, those movies are linked on my mind.

The Warriors preceded Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. So I saw the ending of the warriors so much.

We also had a Three Stooges marathon recorded from TBS. The TV spot for Fatal Instinct is seared in my brain.

oh yeah. I have The Beatles Anthology and the 1997 (held in 1998) Academy Awards taped off of TV and the commercials on both are amazing.

I can't love this post enough to express how much I love this post. I was/am a habitual re-watcher of movies. My boyfriend doesn't get it, but my girls do. I got it from my mom, too. And my best friend and her mom growing up. We were all re-watchers. I remember all the trailers you wrote about (wow! I forgot that Michelle Pfeiffer trailer - I don't think I ever saw it though), and love the idea of the Godfather as an epic romance!

I have an ever-growing DVD/BluRay collection and the DVDs are really my favorite because of the trailers. The girls and I ALWAYS watch them. Its a time travel moment. It really is.

I sold all my VHS tapes at a garage sale the summer after I moved out. Wish I had them. I recently was talking to one of the rental clerks at Vidiots about how I can't find a copy of Allison Anders' Sugar Town except on VHS. She said "guess its the universe telling you to get a VHS player" :)

yeah Sugar Town has sadly fallen into the void. I know Allison is trying to work out the rights on that one, so hopefully it'll get a Blu-ray soon!

Yeah, I know she is, too. I really loved it the one time I saw it.

I saw the “Dark City” so many times because it played on our VHS copy of “Mortal Kombat II”

Oooh. We had Mortal Kombat on VHS, but not Mortal Kombat II. Sad I missed out on that trailer!

The lyric "I play right field, it's important to me..." from the Pizza Hut trailer where the kid catches the fly ball (despite themselves) has been kicking around the back of my head for 34 years. (Pop-flies and quicksand were two of the biggest threats to children in the 80s/90s.) The Looney-Tunes WB Store trailer that preceded Batman and Never Ending Story II was also a delight. And honorable mention to the couple who take their dog to the video store and mildly scold him for not getting "the Godfather (actor does a euro hand count) Part 3."

The VHS for Batman was a treasure for sure
